The harvest festival of Kerala, Onam is one of the biggest celebrations in the state. This is a very popular event and one of the most anticipated celebrations by our students who use this opportunity to embrace their traditional values and ethnic uniqueness. The ‘Malayali’ traditions are in full swing during this period and each of our student take this occasion pretty seriously and the celebrations are thorough- right from the dressing to each of the different traditions observed.
The girls stunningly dress in the traditional Kerala Set Saree and the boys adorn Shirt and Mundu, and this one of the very rare occasions where our students step into traditional attire and divulge in the festivities. Students across different departments and batches participate in the mega Pookalam Competition which is a two hour long flower arrangement competition. Intricate details and patterns are observed and the students prepare for the event through careful research of the contemporary trends. The group of students who present the best among their competition wins the first place.
Onam is a festival loaded with different games and events, and we tend to inculcate as much of the celebrations as possible so that our students experience the festivities optimally and revel in the local culture. Also included in the celebrations are Onappattu, Thiruvathira, Pulikali, Kummattikali and Fancy Dress Competitions. The College “Mahabali” presides over the onam celebrations. The competitions are followed by a delicious “Onasadya” which is a full course scrumptious meal made out of locally sourced ingredients.
Recognized around the world as the happiest and most beautiful time of the year, Christmas brings about copious amounts of joy, cheer and peace in the air as the students keenly look forward to ending the year on a high. The decorations for the Christmas season begins early on and the whole campus is dressed up to look as beautiful as possible by a donning it with numerous ornaments, bells and lights. The entire campus sparkles and shines throughout this period and there is infectious happiness all around. Hymns of joy and peace can be heard around the campus. The huge, well illuminated Christmas tree is the star of the show besides which the Nativity scene is depicted alongside displaying the Lord Christ just born and on Mother Mary’s lap. The students and teachers dress up in fancy outfits, and dance to the tunes of various catchy Christmas beats. Gifts and candies are distributed to everyone present by Santa.
Inarguably the most sought after event throughout the college year, this event is conducted by the students and management together, with great enthusiasm and keenness. The students and management are equally excited to render this event successful and work hard for the same. The first half of the academic year is when this event usually occurs and this is an excellent opportunity for everyone to assess and acknowledge the achievements of the year. This annual event presents wonderful opportunities for students to get to know each other better as well as interact with their faculty and management on a friendly basis and form valuable connections.
The students take the lead during this program and manage all the events by themselves with minimal to little interference from the faculty and management. It is done this way so as to promote leadership skills and organizational skills among students who rise up to the occasion and extend amazing performances. This event occurs right after the Annual Sports Day Celebrations and the friendly competitive spirits among the students are at a high during this period.
The Annual Sports Event is called Shawrya whereas Vismaya is the annual Arts Festival. During both of these events, our students shine and bring out their best performances and exhibit surprising new talents which we promote and build throughout the years that they are with us.
